{"id":35224,"date":"2020-04-28T15:16:45","date_gmt":"2020-04-28T13:16:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ostro.si\/?p=35224"},"modified":"2026-06-09T12:01:40","modified_gmt":"2026-06-09T10:01:40","slug":"ostro-becomes-a-member-of-the-global-investigative-journalism-network","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ostro.si\/en\/stories\/ostro-becomes-a-member-of-the-global-investigative-journalism-network\/","title":{"rendered":"O\u0161tro becomes a member of the Global Investigative Journalism Network"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"sqs-html-content\" data-sqsp-text-block-content=\"\">\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">At its last meeting, the Board of Directors of Global Investigative Journalism Network (<a href=\"https:\/\/gijn.org\/2020\/04\/21\/gijn-welcomes-seven-new-member-organizations-in-five-countries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GIJN<\/a>) \u201cunanimously welcomed\u201d O\u0161tro as its new membership organisation. O\u0161tro is now officially and closely linked together with 187 non-profit investigative journalism organisations from 78 countries around the globe. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">In the last 17 years, GIJN became one of the most influential international non-profit media associations in the world. It actively supports the work of NGOs, educational institutions, and, above all, non-profit media who nurture and foster investigative reporting and related data journalism.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">In addition to O\u0161tro, one of new members is also Forbidden Stories, a French non-profit NGO that investigates murders of journalists and keeps their work alive; its <a href=\"https:\/\/forbiddenstories.org\/our-network\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">member<\/a> is also founder of O\u0161tro Anu\u0161ka Deli\u0107.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">   <iframe src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/20IdBj5M2hQ?wmode=opaque&amp;enablejsapi=1\" height=\"480\" width=\"854\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><br\/><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n<div class=\"sqs-html-content\" data-sqsp-text-block-content=\"\">\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">With this enlargement, GIJN welcomed its first member in Australia \u2013 Judith Neilson Institute for Journalism and Ideas \u2013 and first representing Syrian journalists \u2013 Syrian Investigative Reporting for Accountability Journalism (SIRAJ).<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">GIJN members also include other organisations that O\u0161tro regularly collaborates with, such as Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.occrp.org\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OCCRP<\/a>), O\u0161tro being one of its members, and International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.icij.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ICIJ<\/a>), which O\u0161tro collaborated with on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ostro.si\/en\/panama-papers\">Panama Papers<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ostro.si\/en\/implant-files\">Implant Files<\/a>. GIJN members are also O\u0161tro\u2019s partners from the neighbourhood: <a href=\"https:\/\/irpi.eu\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IRPI<\/a> from Italy, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.direkt36.hu\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Direkt36<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/atlatszo.hu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Atlatszo.hu<\/a> from Hungary, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dossier.at\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dossier<\/a> from Austria.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">All media organisations that form part of the GIJN network publish in-depth, original, and high-quality reporting, often relying heavily on the scrutiny of public records, unearthing information in the public interest, and joining forces with other like-minded media, always with a focus on social justice and accountability. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">\u201cAfter nine years, since I first participated at the Global Investigative Journalism Conference in Kiev, where I met extraordinary people from GIJN who are the true drivers behind the development of investigative journalism, I can now finally also officially feel at home in this network,\u201d founder of O\u0161tro commented the great event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">\u201cGIJN membership is an immense honour for O\u0161tro, even more so because it was unanimously approved, and also a great responsibility as we, amidst the daily pulse of minor and major affairs, continue to uphold the highest professional standards and make sure that we pave the way for generations of upright and perceptive journalists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\"><em>O\u0161tro also has its network of members \u2013 readers who are willing to support our journalism with their membership and stay in touch with the editorial team.
