{"id":36008,"date":"2026-04-03T09:14:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-03T07:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ostro.si\/?p=36008"},"modified":"2026-06-10T09:17:24","modified_gmt":"2026-06-10T07:17:24","slug":"nearly-half-of-addressed-politicians-are-cooperating-with-our-asset-investigation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ostro.si\/en\/stories\/nearly-half-of-addressed-politicians-are-cooperating-with-our-asset-investigation\/","title":{"rendered":"Nearly Half of Addressed Politicians Are Cooperating With Our Asset Investigation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In October*, as part of O\u0161tro\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/detektorpremozenja.si\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Asset Detector<\/a>\u00a0project which aims to increase the transparency of the activities of Slovenian politicians, we\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ostro.si\/en\/stories\/we-have-expanded-the-asset-detector-with-meps-and-several-mayors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">published<\/a>\u00a0data on the assets of Members of the European Parliament, new government officials and MPs, and the first six mayors. Today, we added information on the assets of the mayors of Brda, Dom\u017eale, Dobrna, Grosuplje, Koper, Maribor, Radenci, Ribnica, Semi\u010d, and Velenje, as well as MP Janja Rednjak who replaced her colleague Jani Prednik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<button onclick=\"window.open('https:\/\/detektorpremozenja.si\/', '_blank')\"> View the assets of public officials <\/button>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50)\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before publication, each official is informed of our findings and given the opportunity to respond and to confirm, deny, or supplement the information. They are also asked to provide us with a copy of the asset declaration form they submitted to the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption in accordance with the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The following infographic shows how many officials responded to O\u0161tro\u2019s questions, and which ones are willing to publicly disclose their assets or those of their family members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the 44 officials featured in the October and December editions of the Asset Detector, the largest group \u2013 nearly half \u2013 consists of those who took our journalistic work seriously and provided substantive answers to our questions. The MEPs were particularly responsive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sixteen percent of the officials covered in October and December sent us a complete inventory of their assets, as submitted to the anti-corruption commission. Three of them also provided us with a form detailing changes in their assets, which allows us to track wealth throughout their term of office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nine officials responded, but did not answer questions about their assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, nearly a third of the officials, including a new MP, did not respond to our
